I have always been fond of ancient fertility goddesses. These figures embrace true womanhood, not the manufactured and commercialized, glossy and perfect, ideals our society seems to embrace.
This past Friday, I was at a feminist bookstore (where else would you expect to find me? Work?) and I stumbled upon a mini-fertility goddess figurine. Even though I am watching my spending, I splurged and "bought" her. Just looking at this little figure makes me happy.
I have to think of a name for her. Demeter--that's not quite right. Eve and Lilith aren't suitable for her, either.
So meet my Goddess. She'll be with me, reminding me of what's truly important in life and also as a gentle reminder to take care of myself, even when I don't think or cannot see that I'm "worth it."
